These men and women—often poor, often uneducated by formal standards—carried with them an unwavering commitment to faith, family, hard work, and perseverance. Though they arrived in a new land with little more than hope, the legacy they passed on continues to shape lives and communities to this day.

Their Catholic Faith, strong families, and a determined spirit sustained them through natural disasters, wars, foreign occupation, and a medieval system of servitude.
